Which Spray Assistant Do I Need? A Guide to Choosing the Correct Model

Spray cans and bottles can be surprisingly difficult to operate. Small spray buttons often require considerable finger strength, and holding the container while pressing the nozzle can be uncomfortable for people with arthritis, hand weakness, reduced dexterity, or limited mobility.

At Kohleebree3D, we offer several spray assistants designed for different personal care products and spray can styles. Although many of our assistants use a similar trigger style handle, they are not interchangeable. Choosing the correct assistant depends on the type of product, the diameter and height of the can, and the construction of the top of the can.

One of the most important differences is whether the can has a plastic enclosed top or an exposed metal ring.

Our Spray Deodorant, Spray Sunscreen, Foot Spray, and Hairspray Assistants are designed for spray cans that typically have a plastic housing or plastic shroud surrounding the top of the can. These cans do not have the exposed metal ring required by our Aerosol Can Spray Assistant.

This guide explains the differences between each model so you can select the correct Spray Assistant for your product.

Spray Deodorant Assistant

Our Spray Deodorant Assistant is specifically designed for typical spray deodorant cans measuring approximately 44.8 millimeters in diameter.

Spray deodorant cans are generally smaller and shorter than the sunscreen, foot spray, and hairspray cans used with our other Spray Assistants. They typically have a plastic enclosed housing around the spray mechanism rather than an exposed metal ring.

The adjustable trigger presses the deodorant button when the handle is squeezed. It can be repositioned to accommodate differences in can height.

Spray Sunscreen Assistant

Our Spray Sunscreen Assistant is specifically designed for spray sunscreen cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter.

These cans are slightly wider and taller than typical spray deodorant cans. They usually have a plastic housing or plastic shroud surrounding the spray mechanism and do not have an exposed metal ring.

The larger trigger handle is easier to squeeze than the small button found on many spray sunscreen cans. This can be particularly helpful when your hands are slippery from sunscreen, lotion, or water.

Relative size: Wider and slightly taller than typical spray deodorant cans

Foot Spray Assistant

Our Foot Spray Assistant is specifically designed for foot spray cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter.

Foot spray cans are similar in diameter to spray sunscreen cans, but they are noticeably shorter. They typically have a plastic enclosed housing around the spray mechanism rather than an exposed metal ring.

The trigger style operation reduces the need to press the small spray button directly with one finger.

Relative size: Similar in diameter to spray sunscreen cans, but noticeably shorter

Hairspray Assistant

Our Hairspray Assistant is specifically designed for tall hairspray cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter.

Although these cans are similar in diameter to many spray sunscreen and foot spray cans, hairspray cans are considerably taller. Some compatible hairspray cans can be nearly 10 inches tall.

Our standard Spray Assistant frame was not designed to support cans of this height, so we created a taller version specifically for hairspray. Like the deodorant, sunscreen, and foot spray cans, compatible hairspray cans typically have a plastic housing or plastic shroud surrounding the spray mechanism. They do not have an exposed metal ring.

Relative size: Similar in diameter to spray sunscreen and foot spray cans, but considerably taller

Aerosol Can Spray Assistant

Our Aerosol Can Spray Assistant is specifically designed for aerosol cans that have an exposed metal ring at the top.

This assistant is fundamentally different from our Spray Deodorant, Spray Sunscreen, Foot Spray, and Hairspray Assistants. Instead of supporting the body of the can, it attaches directly to the exposed metal ring surrounding the spray mechanism.

The Aerosol Can Spray Assistant is only compatible with cans that have this exposed metal ring.

If the can has a plastic top, plastic covering, plastic housing, or plastic shroud surrounding the spray mechanism, the Aerosol Can Spray Assistant will not be compatible. One of our other Spray Assistants may be more appropriate.

This model can work with several types of products, including certain hairsprays, dry shampoos, cooking sprays, household sprays, and workshop products. Compatibility is determined by the exposed metal ring, not simply by the product inside the can.

Not compatible with: Cans with a plastic top, plastic housing, plastic covering, or plastic shroud

Bath & Body Works Body Spray Assistant

Our Bath & Body Works Body Spray Assistant is specifically designed for compatible Bath & Body Works fragrance and body spray bottles.

Unlike our can based Spray Assistants, this model clamps around the neck of the fragrance bottle. It is available in two sizes.

The large model fits bottle necks measuring approximately 44 millimeters in diameter. The small model fits bottle necks measuring approximately 37.5 millimeters in diameter.

Specifically designed for: Bath & Body Works fragrance and body spray bottles

Large size: Approximately 44 millimeters

Small size: Approximately 37.5 millimeters

Measurement location: The neck of the bottle where the assistant attaches

Comparing Our Spray Can Assistants

The Spray Deodorant Assistant is designed for the smallest cans in this group. Compatible deodorant cans measure approximately 44.8 millimeters in diameter and are generally shorter than the other spray cans.

The Spray Sunscreen Assistant is designed for slightly larger and taller cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter.

The Foot Spray Assistant is also designed for cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter, but foot spray cans are noticeably shorter than spray sunscreen cans.

The Hairspray Assistant is designed for cans measuring approximately 52.9 millimeters in diameter, but hairspray cans are considerably taller than both spray sunscreen and foot spray cans.

All four of these models are intended for spray cans with a plastic enclosed top. They are not designed for cans with an exposed metal ring.

The Aerosol Can Spray Assistant is only for cans with an exposed metal ring. It will not work when a plastic housing or plastic shroud covers the top of the can.

How to Check Your Can Before Ordering

If you see a clearly exposed metal ring surrounding the spray mechanism, the Aerosol Can Spray Assistant may be the correct choice.

If the top of the can is enclosed by a plastic housing or plastic shroud, do not select the Aerosol Can Spray Assistant. Instead, compare the diameter, height, and intended use of your can with our Spray Deodorant, Spray Sunscreen, Foot Spray, and Hairspray Assistants.

To measure the diameter, measure straight across the circular body of the can from one side to the other. Do not measure around the outside of the can. A ruler can provide an approximate measurement, but a digital caliper will provide the most accurate result.

You should also measure the total height of the can. Two cans may have the same diameter while being designed for different Spray Assistants because one can is substantially taller or shorter than the other.

Do not rely only on the number of ounces printed on the container. Products holding the same amount can have different diameters, heights, and nozzle designs.

For Bath & Body Works bottles, measure the neck where the assistant will attach rather than the main body of the bottle.

Still Unsure Which Spray Assistant You Need?

Product packaging can change, and even products from the same brand may use different can sizes or nozzle designs.

When you are uncertain, send us the product name along with a few clear photographs of the container. A photograph of the top with the removable cap removed is especially helpful because it allows us to see whether the can has an exposed metal ring or a plastic enclosed housing.

Please also include a photograph showing a ruler across the diameter of the can and another showing its total height.

We would much rather help you confirm compatibility before ordering than have you receive a Spray Assistant that does not fit.
